My Origin Story - The Ring

Hey, welcome back to my blog! It's been quite a while since the last post, huh?

This time, our task was to write an Origin story about something. I decided to write mine about a Ring that changes color depending on the user. For the main character in this story, Lua, it's purple. For the other character, who's unnamed, it's red. We learned about adverbs, metaphors, and similes and were told to use them in this story.

Plop! Something falls from the grey-colored sky, right into the middle of a large broken water fountain. It’s extremely old and cracked, with moss growing from the tiers, spilling out into the bottom as if it’s water. Lua, who observed the thing fall from the sky, peers her dark-black eyes into the water fountain, searching for what fell. She kept looking in the dark, murky water until she found something shining. A small purple ring, that was shining its way right through the dirty water, like the sun on a cloudy day. Lua was afraid to reach her hand in the water and grab it, in fear of something lurking in the water. But curiosity got the best of her, and she grabbed it with her bare hand anyways. She sat on the ledge of the fountain and used her sleeve to wipe the ring clean. She gave it a closer look. The gem on the ring was a vivid purple, and the band surrounding the gem was as dark as Lua’s eyes.

“Crap,” the lanky man with a deep voice, shaking his head roughly. “Dropped my ring again.” The Demon shook his head and looked away from the drop spot, very unbothered. “It’s not like any human will find it, might as well deal with it later.” The unknown man walked away from the drop point of his ring, marking it with a little bit of magic so that he could go down and find it later.

Lua held the small ring in her hands. She admired it for quite a while, getting lost in the beautiful violet color of the gem. She thought it was beautiful, so she put it on her finger...

Whoosh!

A gust of wind blinded Lua's vision, and she fell a short distance, landing on her butt. What she was sitting on was something extremely soft. She winced at the sudden impact and then opened her eyes to purple. Everything was purple, as far as the eye could see. She looked down at what she was touching, and it was grass. Purple grass. She grabbed it with her hands and ripped it from the roots. The dirt was purple. Lua looked up, and there were huge trees everywhere. As far as the eye could see. There were beautiful flowers surrounding where she sat, but she had squished some of them upon landing. There were living creatures everywhere, little bugs dancing on the flowers, little purple people climbing the trees, and birds chirping loudly. There was a bunch of deer with really long and swirly horns eating grass. There was a beautiful water fountain off in the distance, the water was shining as bright as a diamond. Three dancing little faeries flew past Lua’s face. She stood up, dusting the dirt off of her pants. “The ring,” she gasped. She looked up from the ring and back down to it. “Where in the world am I?” she said, looking at the ring on her finger. It was glowing. She pulled it off. Immediately she was sitting back on the water fountain. She looked at the dull grey sky, and around at her surroundings. It was the same place, just a lot less purple. She slowly slid the ring back onto her finger. Everything was different shades of purple, even the sun was a brightly tinted purple. Shining as bright as ever. She turned around, and she was greeted by a large tree. Wherever this place was, it made her extremely happy. Purple is Lua’s favorite color. There were beautiful flowers everywhere. This place was like a wonderland to Lua. “I want to stay here forever,” she groaned, taking in the view. The little faeries danced by her face again, chittering. There were beautiful things to look at everywhere, it was kind of overwhelming for Lua. Two walking purple trees seemed to be walking together, communicating to themselves. She noticed that every being in this world was that of magic, supernatural things that she was sure didn’t exist. The trees stopped to stare at her, looking her up and down. She looked down at her outfit, realizing she was the only thing in this weird world that wasn’t purple. Then she realized everything living in that world was staring at her. She panicked and took the ring off. In her panic, it fell in the water fountain and immediately dissolved. “No!” she yelled, staring hard into the dirty water of the fountain. She put her hands back in the water, trying to grab at the ring.

The lanky man stared at Lua from above the clouds. He laughed at her dilemma. He moved his hands towards his face, said something into it, and the Ring appeared in his hand. This time, it was red. The Ring’s gem has the favorite color of the person who’s using it. It’s powered completely by magic, and the wearer gets teleported to a place that makes them extremely happy. But, the catch is, if the wearer spends more than an hour altogether in that wonderland, they’re trapped there, cursed by their own favorite color forever.

Here are two pictures of the imagined Ring, one is digital and one is a drawing of it.
